Welcome to Quassett Lake. We know that you will love and care for the lake as we do. No doubt you received a copy of the lake Bylaws at your closing. There is a lot of information included in that document (link below) and we encourage you to review it.
Below are a few highlights of the key rules that will help us all enjoy the lake. We encourage you to post this on your refrigerator so that your family and guests are aware of the rules.
All State of Connecticut boating regulations apply to Quassett Lake. Visit https://www.ct.gov for more information.
All boat operators must have obtained a Boating Certificate.
Power boats are to drive in a counter-clockwise direction. Quassett Lake is quite narrow so having all boat traffic go in the same direction will minimize the possibility of accidents.
Be mindful of your wake especially with different water levels in order to minimize property damage around the lake. Boaters are responsible for any damages from their wakes.
There must be a spotter in addition to the driver in the boat when pulling a water skier or tuber. There shall be no motor boating in excess of five (5) mph within one hundred (100) feet of any shore except for the purpose of initiating or concluding a ski run. This is especially important for both safety and to reduce shoreline damage.
Maximum speed between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. is five miles per hour. This is to ensure that there is adequate time for people to use canoes, paddle boats, kayaks and similar watercraft without waves from power boats.
Personal watercraft (i.e. trademarked brand names Jet Ski, Wave Runner, Sea-Doo) are prohibited on Quassett Lake.
All boats operating on the lake will be required to have one QLD sticker placed on the starboard bow as well as a current Connecticut registration. A copy of the current CT Registration and CT Boating license is required to obtain the QLD sticker to be sure only legal boats are operating on the lake. To receive your sticker(s) fill out the registration form at the bottom of this page.
The boat launch has a locked chain to discourage outside individuals from launching their boats in our lake. If you notice boats on the lake without a QLD sticker, let the owner know a sticker is required or contact the Board. You may also let the individual(s) know that our lake is private, only district members are allowed to have their boats on the lake. We do this to maintain a clean and safe lake.

Aquatic Weed Harvester & Weed Control
At the May 18, 2024 annual homeowner's meeting, QLD overwhelming agreed to authorize use of Sonar chemical treatment (cost $40,000) to remediate lake weed growth. The first application was applied on May 30, another in June and final application on July 16th. The Sonar treatment is currently applied every 3 years; Nautique treatment ($10,000 annually) used the other 2 years. The Water Quality Committee is researching alternative organic and environmentally friendly weed control solutions. Additionally, QLD uses the weed harvester to remove lake bogs and weeds. You may have noticed it near the boat ramp or in action on the lake. This was purchased to eliminated bogs when they appear and also to remove excess aquatic weeds when necessary. This mechanical weed control requires a great deal of time and effort to completely remove all weeds. Finally, annual lake lowering in October (now November) limits spring weed growth.
Homeowners can help keep our lake healthy: no herbicides or pesticides on their lawns. Herbicides and pesticides ultimately end up in the lake, causing weed growth or killing live aquatic creatures and plant-life.
We are committed to keeping our lake a great place for recreation as well as for our natural wildlife/plant-life to live.
